40 days?!

Isn't this inviting? Don't be too jealous--I was only allowed out here in my swim suit for all of 7 1/2 minutes the whole weekend. Apparently there were things to do, drinks to down, dancing to be done, and yummy food to be had. It was a tight schedule of "must-do's" and lounging in the sun wasn't one of them. The compromise--enjoying lunch in the sunshine at the Tiki Lounge. I actually have tan lines from that lunch, believe it or not.

On another note, today is the first day of Lent, holy season for Christians galore. Although I'm not a huge practitioner of Catholicism, I do fast, try to reflect and be more patient and considerate of others, and give up something --although I never really got that.

I was brought up that Lent was a time of reflection and a time to think about our lives and spirituality. The whole "giving up" stuff for Lent for me was never chocolate or beer, I never understood what that was going to accomplish. I aim for more personal growth kinda things like not talking about others or trying to be less negative about things. Of course, it all fades after a few weeks, but I think the attempt is admirable.

This year I will, once again, give up cursing. Giving up cursing for me is like giving up a left arm for others--it's just always there. Not that I'm proud of that, I just worked in the trucking industry and production plants for a few early years and bad habits are hard to break. So, again, I will try and be a better person and be more aware of the language I use.

Wish me luck. I give me a day.

So it's that time of the year again. Trying not to curse would be a hard one for me as well. Good luck!

Like I said I am giving up brussel sprouts...although I have never eaten a brussel sprout. LOL

(did i hear you swear at me with humor.)

I never give up. I instead enhance. Say read a bible verse each day for forty days.

I hope that pool was heated. Ours is still freezing and we won't be able to go in until the end of March at the earliest. Brrr.

My Son was a trucker and his vocabulary often astounded me, but he didn't even think about the words he used and how it might offend many people. Good luck with curbing yours, I have a few that I use often myself.

Good luck with that! Sitting by the pool WASN'T on the must do list? Man...that's a rough vacation!

A day? That's all you think you'll make? I must say I'm impressed with the type of thing you've chosen. Most people opt for the easy way out. My nieces always give up things they didn't like anyhow. ;)

Laala--Well, I made it through today. That's one....

Jodi--I LOVE brussel sprouts. You are secretly suffering and you don't even know it!! Wait until Easter, you can eat all that you've been missing.

Casey--No heat equals No me. I didn't even go in the hot tub--too Cold!!

Jude--In the traffic industry I dealt with drivers all the time and if you didn't show them you were one of them, you were eaten alive. I had to learn to curse to survive as a woman in the industry. Not so handy now, though. Do I get points for recognizing my faults? :)

Nancy--Well, it was either cocktails or pool. Cocktails usually won out.

Violet--One day down....39 more to go. I think Lent is a time for self-improvement. And I think it will be better for those around me too. Gees, I sound like a nun!

Well, I think it's about recognizing that there is Someone who is worthy of having us pay less attention to ourselves. I'm never sure if organizing half the world to give up something at a particular time is the answer. But I'll say a little prayer for you tonight. Less cursing might make some people around you happier ?? :-)

Good luck, truck driver!!! Just kidding.I'm Catholic so I'm working harder than anyone else. So far I only said 4 Chinese expletives today.
Hope the Good Lord up there is not bilingual!!!

I am Not Allowed to say bad words, but I have found that a loud "Rats!" is very satisfying.

Hi Lin! I'm sure you can do more than a day - noticing the telltale sign just before you let loose the expletives will be the hardest bit - but if you can get it - you'll easily make 40 days :)

...Or you'll have to eat chicken feet!

(oh dear I hope you didn't swear just now! :P)

Wow, it's lent already. Good luck on giving up cursing. I have the same bad habit. LOL! Though it's helped that I have a 4 year old to help me watch my mouth. Thanks for stopping by.

Giving up cursing, that's hilarious. Good luck with that. I can now curse in English AND French. It's great!

Wow, a pool. No snow. No ice. We do have our hot tub which we have used every single day throughout the entire winter. Even in minus 30 celcius. There is some screaming unrobing to get in, but after that it is all good.

Ohhhhhh, I am so ready for this snow to go away, and your photo makes me even more anxious.

Sharky--Yeah, I'm with you on this one. I have to make this time for improvement--if not for me, for those around me whether they be friend or stranger.

Steph--I have a pond--does that count? But I don't go swimming in it. It is still lovely to look at.

Veronica--Oh I don't think God would mind. Actually with all that is going on in this world, I imagine God has a few choice words of his/her own!

Daisy-What? No hissing?

Vanilla--Thanks! I'll pop by there later!

Franklin--NO!! Now maybe chicken breasts, but never their feet! (Do chickens really have breasts?)

Michelle--It's easier than giving up beer!

Kellliiiieee--Whoohoo! The holidays are going to be BORING now!

Lin said...

Panther--Why do I think that cursing in French just doesn't count?! It probably sounds lovely and sing-songy and exotic. I so admire you for that ability.

Lin, I hope that you enjoyed your time away. From the pictures, I would have to say that "bird cage" is in Florida.

On another note, check out my newest multi-user site. It is called Neighborhood Expert Online. I think you would be a great fit there as well as some of your readers. The great thing is, it is all FREE.
