The "Last" Call

This whole Senior Year thing is wearing thin on me. I mean, I'm growing tired of weeping at all of the "lasts" that have been happening lately--the last band concert, the last tennis match, the last day of school, etc. Even Col's last trumpet lesson with his teacher, Bob, caught me boo-hooing on Saturday.

So, what do we do for fun on Sunday? We go to the last CYSO performance for our pally, Ted. Criminy, like we don't have enough "lasts", now I'm going to Ted's too. At least I didn't cry there.

Here's Joe driving to Symphony Hall for the last time.

Em and I entertaining ourselves during intermission.

Here's actually a good shot of Em and I--until Joe ruined it by sneaking in. Dork.

And the required "family" shot after the concert.
Here we are with my son, Ted, and his birth mother, Betty. Check out G'ma Phyl hoggin' the hugs with Ted. Sheesh, my own mother doggin' me!

Ted isn't really my son, he's just a great kid who just happens to be the most talented flute player in Illinois--no lie. He started playing the sousaphone (tuba) when he was younger and picked up the flute about 3 years ago in between learning to play a half dozen other instruments. Now he appears as a principle player and soloist for the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra--a favorite venue of our family this year. We're like Ted groupies.

Unbelievably talented, Ted is our Drum Major extraordinaire, #2 in his class of 350 students, on the Wall of Fame at the high school, just got a full ride to Boston University for his flute playing, and is probably one of the nicest kids I know. I adore Ted and threaten to adopt him endlessly, except that darn Betty won't let him go. Sheesh.

I'm gonna miss all the concerts and the fun going to see Ted perform. I'm gonna miss Colin playing the trumpet and playing tennis. I'm gonna miss being silly with the kids and enjoying their friends. And most of all, I'm gonna miss this year of "lasts".

*Don't forget to go to vote for Prom King and Queen on yesterday's post! You have until the end of Tuesday to vote!

Alex LOVES singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star while playing piano. Where do I sign him up for lounge singer class in school?

Okay so did you or Em win your game of Rock Paper Scissors? Soon the "Lasts" will give way to "Firsts." Celebrate and kiss the joy.

It's funny but Ted really does "fit" perfectly into your family!! LOL!

Embrace the tears, they will keep coming. Every milestone is paved with a mother's tears.

You still have all those "lasts" to look forward to with Em.

I love your green coat. It looks good enough to eat.

I had to do a double take on that pic of you and Em. At first I thought you were sticking out your middle finger.

I look forward to your spin on all your new "firsts" that will come with college....and beyond. BTW, Ted is #!^* awesome. He must know he is shared (admired/loved) similarly by many! Fran's Dad

DG--Scary, isn't it? We are such losers. And this is in Symphony Hall, downtown Chicago. I'm sure we looked great doing this too.

Violet--I'm not sure about 'cute', but we sure are wacky. :)

Helene--It is a start. I think Ted started out that way. :)

Chuck--I'm ready for the 'lasts' to end and begin the 'firsts', although most of those won't include me, unfortunately. I'll probably be crying then too!

Jo--He thinks we are funny---sometimes. :) That's why I need to adopt him.

Highway--I was doing really good at NOT crying for the longest time. Graduation ought to be interesting. Ugh.

Grace--Pretty WACKY. :)

Lola--Hey! Don't remind me!

Pricilla--I bought that coat YEARS ago--I love when things come back into fashion. :) I'm not sure if it would taste good, but I'm not checking.

Fran's Dad--I think everyone loves Ted--you just can't help it! I did see Frannie at the concert on Sunday--she is soooo cute!

Veronica--Pretty wacky is about all! We do have some fun together. I think that is what I am going to miss when Colin goes off to college.

Your family is so fun! Col and Em are going to look back and have such wonderful memories of all this one day.

Methinks Em needs to marry Ted one day so he can really be your son. How about an arranged marriage? ;) Seriously, he sounds like a great kid.

And pfft to Joe for ruining that great shot! lol

Beaded Tail--Well, if they aren't laughing they'll at least have reasons for therapy. :)

Sharky--It has been a wild ride, and yes, I have loved every minute. I'm sad that it is changing--not ending, just changing.

Natalee--Now, just picture this in a stunning auditorium downtown Chicago. Yeah, we are all class!

Storm--Oh, wouldn't that be lovely?? Somehow I don't think that is gonna happen, but I'd settle for just being his friend as he moves along in his career. I have a feeling he is going to be big. I hope he remembers how much we love him.

The good thing about life is that even with all of these lasts, there are always new things to take their place. Then they will become lasts one day too.

Casey said...

His birth mother, hah! He seems like an awesome kid (and he kind of looks like he's related so you have that going for you).

Lin said...

Ratty--Yeah, I get that, but these are his last days of being my "little" boy at home with me. That is hard to let go.

Casey--He is the "dream kid". Really. Such a smart, talented, nice, and very outgoing young man. He will be successful, I'm sure of it. I'm totally adopting him if his birth mother looks the other way.
