What is the deal with this time change anyway? Do you really think this is necessary? I don't. I mean, there are parts of the country/world that don't do this and they are just fine. My body is old and I can't be adjusting my sleep like this. Criminy--losing an hour is messin' with me big time. I think I'm gonna wear jammies to work today and bring my pillow for a mid-afternoon nap.
Poor Em was the victim of the boys messing with the laptop this weekend. Oh sure, they were "updating" Windows, but they forgot to save all of her files and photos. She was MIFFED to no end in finding the destruction and I can't say I blame her. But to help keep it in perspective, I did show her the devastation in Japan. I can't imagine what those people have faced and what lies ahead. It did not help Em--she is still miffed. And I'm putting it lightly.
Uh, I don't mean to offend, but I do not get this whole "everyone is Irish on St. Paddy's day". I'm not and I don't want to be. I really didn't want to be yesterday as Joe and I got stuck in the midst of a very long St. Patrick's Day parade while trying to drop off my car at the mechanic's for repairs. Ugh. I was giving every green-painted faced fool the evil eye as I sat on a side street waiting for clearance to drive on the street the dealer is on. The 45 minute errand turned into a two-hour affair--and I was not amused.
Col has spring break this week and Em has it next week. Jodi has spring break and she is a grown-up and works at a school. I do not have a spring break. Something is wrong here. Very wrong.
So, while the time changed (not in my favor), Em lost her computer history, I was molested by a St. Paddy's day parade, and the whole world is off for spring break and I am not--I can only blame it on one thing.....
Monday.
Ugh.

I hate this time change-I need that hour back!
A friend of mine has lived in Japan for 20 years. Yesterday our time she, her husband, their two young kids and the dog (phew!) were evacuated from their home in Tokyo on a 5 hour train ride south after the nuclear clouds overhead reached them and she doesn't know if she just walked away from everything they had-its uncertain they can go back. Our only communication is through her Blackberry email.
Yes, but Col is home...:)
Lin, I think you evil non-Irish eye dropped snow on my spring break. Sheesh. Really?
Got a text from my Air Force Captian/ pilot nephew yesterday...he is in Japan flew a 23 hr mission from Alaska delivering 7 generators and other supplies to air bases. Is back at it again after 12 hours of rest. He'll be doing it for 7-14 days. He exact words: "Japan is in bad shape." I can't imagine seeing it in person, the news coverage was bad enough!
Poor Japan. :(
Poor Em. I would be FREAKING. FREEEEEAKING. Those boys would be paying. PAYING!!! My deepest sincerest sympathies. A sister's best friend is an external hard drive. :( Give Em a hug for me.
I don't like the whole Irish thing, either. I'm Scot, and WE don't get no parade. Why not?
I like Mondays. I like the fresh start. My weekends are usually just as busy as the weekdays, though, so maybe that's why I don't mind them. I hope you get through yours smiling. :D
After losing all my data to an HD crash, I bought an external HD and automatic backup software. A couple of years later, and another HD crash. This time I restored my data, programs and settings. Super!
FWIW, my son just bout a two tera-byte external for less than $100.
I agree wrt Monday. Years ago in Costa Rica I learned an expression that best translates as: "Blue Monday and not even the hens lay."
Monday: This, too, shall pass; and tomorrow is another day!
Here is what my friend wrote our teacher when she got a call from the advisor saying you may want to drop if you can't keep up with the class and not even a how are you:
>>we had to evacuate my home of the last 20 years with two suitcases for four people and we took a train about 1000 km south. I am working on my assignments and plan to post them as soon as I can get on line on the computer as I don't have the cables I need to up load on the phone. I just downloaded everything on a flash drive and will use my husband's laptop. I will do my best to meet the posting requirements but I will be restricted to the rolling power outages. If the situation is that we can't return to Tokyo the kids and I will be flying to Dallas with what we have but at least we are safe...we think. It will feel strange to leave with even less baggage than I arrived with half my life ago...really makes you realize what life is worth to be able to walk away and have to start over. <<
Jodi-bless your nephew-he is one of the angels they need right now
No matter where you live disaster is just around the corner. That, simply is life.
I am glad Colin is safe at home with you. Enjoy your time together
Oh Sugar, you need a large beverage and some time to adjust. So glad your boy is home! I would be very upset if I were Em. No one touches the laptop.
So, I guess you can send that large leprechaun garden statue I mailed to you back....
awwwww poor Em!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...and girlie... i love you so because we are sooooo alike.... i too dont want to be Irish.. im about as Italian as they come and Im stickin to it...lol
Well I am Irish...by that I mean that my great, greats lived there and well, now I suppose you'd just say I'm American. Anywyo, I used to love it, and still do, but I think once I quit working in a school things like that just go by the wayside. I couldn't figure out why everyone was strolling around the bar infested area of town while I was just trying to get to the grocery store at 2 pm Sat. Oh yea, brain clicks after at least 5 couples in green pass by. Life just isn't the same without someone handing you a calendar of events anymore. (But my secret is I don't really miss it).
P.S. the word verification is "evill" hehehe.
I agree about DST...it's killing me.
I like DST alright, not the night of the switch, but the rest of it works for me. I feel so bad for Em!!!
I hate the spring ahead thing, I say they should pick one time and stick with it.
I think the whole "Irish for a day" thing is just to give people an excuse to go out and drink. stupid if you ask me.
I hate the time change too especially when it takes forever to start falling asleep at 11pm again instead of midnight because of the change! I did work half the day in my jammies though. :)
I so understand how miffed Em would be. My laptop needs to be restored because Windows is screwed up and I won't let my hubby touch it for fear he loses my photos (even though they are on an external hard drive and his own laptop). The thought of them being gone sends me over the edge!
Glad Col is home!
No time change here in Saskatchewan Canada ~ our 'internal' clocks are at peace! :)
xo Catherine
Ugh... Monday is right! Today basically sucked, but I think it was the time change making me and everyone around me so tired! I agree, it's time to repeal that law!
Helene--I feel so deeply for the people of Japan--I can't even begin to imagine the loss. I pray that your friend and her family can find safe shelter and peace somehow. Give them our best and tell them we are all praying for them.
Grace--yeah. :) It's nice.
Jodi--I think it is unimaginable how devastated that country is. The sheer numbers of dead and missing is unbelievable. We are lucky to have people like your nephew to help them.
Rebecca--Joe bought an external hard drive for the laptop on Sunday--a day too late for Em. That said, I tried to convey to her to put her loss in perspective and I think she got it. Can't even imagine what those people are going through. Maybe we can have a Scot/Lithuanian parade for you and me. :)
Chuck--We have an external hard drive for the desk top and have used it a couple of times--Whew! Joe went and bought one for the laptop on Sunday--a day too late for Em. I think she got the message when she saw the devastation of Japan--talk about losing things. Sad. Very sad.
Vanilla--Yes, you are right! And on the scale of things to gripe about--we've got nuthin'. Nuthin' at all.
Helene--Things are all very replaceable--people are not. I'm glad that she and her family are safe and heading towards a safe zone. I pray they get there soon. I'm so sorry that it happened to her and her lifetime of belongings.
Pricilla--I thought about that and downloaded a emergency list today. I really need to get some things together--especially for the kids and kitties. It is nice to be with Colin again.
Betty--Hahaha! No thanks on the leprechaun! My goose would be jealous. ;)
natalee--I'm Lithuanian and Polish and I don't have a parade. Sheesh. That's 'cuz we're all at home eating potatoes. :)
Nancy--I like the word verification. :) I'll bet you lose track of holidays and such now that you are out of the loop on such things. My mom used to work for the schools and she was always asking why we had to work on Columbus Day. Really, Mom??! Not every job gets off for Columbus Day.
Mary Ann--Hate it. I had a wicked nap today--dreaming and everything. Now I'm not gonna be able to sleep tonight!
Violet--I just want one time and let it stay that way. This switching is exhausting! Yeah, I felt so bad for Em too.
Ann--These fools were out in 40 degree weather in shorts, flip-flops and drinking beer at noon! It was crazy. And I was stuck in it!!! Arrrrggggh!
Beaded Tail--I back my photos up on discs as well as the external hard drive. I don't like how you can lose everything in fell swoop. It's gonna take me until the fall to get used to this time change and then they will change it again. Ugh.
Catherine--Jealous. Very jealous. It wrecks havoc with the old bod. Really.
Poor Em losing all of her data, although i must say that I feel awful for the poor people suffering in Japan, and they have suffered immense loss. I hate losing that hour of sleep when we spring forward, but love that extra hour in the Fall, when we fall back.
It must be a green Monday, and I'm with Em... that is not tsunami bad, but it's bad enough.
Hot Rocks--I guess Japan is keeping us focused on how silly our complaints are these days. They have all lost so much....
Sharky--I guess to a teen it seems like a tsunami.
I dunno, I like being Irish on St Patty's. I look good in green.
Jamie is planning on running for Prez so he can eliminate the time change altogether. They've always thrown us way off with these damn kids but for some reason, this one has worked in our favor. The kids are still going to bed at 7 and are actually sleeping until after 6 (when they used to be up at 5 something). I don't get it but I'm not questioning it.
Poor Em. I'd be pissed too. Really pissed.
