While I got the official "okey dokey" from my doctor to start walking and even running a bit (what gave him that idea?), I have not ventured out for a true workout. Call me protective of that newly straightened toe or maybe just lazy, but I haven't gotten further than the back 40 (feet) lately. Okay, so Colin and I went on a hike a few weeks ago--that hasn't happened much since then. Sigh.
And I wonder why I feel so....bleh.
Anywho....while Hobbes and I were out in the snow the other day, I took a look around the yard a bit. I took note of the large amounts of opossum poopers that need to be picked up, the cut-up Christmas tree that is now mulch in the garden, the wee birdy footprints under the feeders, and all the poor little plants coming up--confused by this warm weather.
I checked in on the praying mantis eggs too. Yep, still there clinging to the branches....waiting for a cabillion little creepy bugs to hatch in Spring.
It never ceases to amaze me the tiny miracles that surround us. Even icky miracles.

“Out of difficulties grow miracles.” And out of praying mantis' come eggs.
LOL, You do make me laugh. I wondered what in the world that picture was about and finally found I think what it was all about. Us old ladies have trouble finding things. We cannot believe that you aren't getting ready for the marothon if there happens to be one somewhere. Have a super week end.
I do believe that that is the first time ever that I saw "icky" used as an adjective with "miracles." You are so creative.
At least the mantis' won't hatch in your house. That happened to me one year. Thousands of little green bugs. One big cat chasing thousands of little green bugs...you don't want to know....you just don't want to know.
Is your digestive system better now that your toe is fixed?
I can say with absolute certainty that it would be a tiny miracle if I could get myself to go out and get some exercise :)
I think praying mantis are kind of cool-maybe because I think I've only seen one once. You'll have to try to get some pictures when they hatch.
You do have a way with words, Lin!
Hope I've been missed! I was away in my hometown on an emergency visit - my mom broke her leg and was hospitalized.
I'd love to see pics of the mantis when they hatch.
Is that what those things are?! I'm so glad I know, thank you:)
Wow - that's cool! Well maybe not the possum poop but the praying mantis eggs are. :)
xo Catherine
Daisy--Or a cabillion baby mantises! EEEK!
Marg--Maybe a sleeping marathon, Marg! Hahaha! NOT a runner. That is a praying mantis egg pod--I have two that I found last fall. I have actually paid for these at the garden store in the past, so I knew what they were when I saw them. It's stuff like that that makes me happy.
Vanilla--Well, praying mantis are sorta icky and cool, aren't they? Caterpillars and tadpoles are sorta like that for some folks.
Pricilla--Oh my GOSH! That would not be cool. Yeah, I will leave these outside. We once had a monarch caterpillar escape his bowl and he attached himself to the bottom of Joe's chair! We wouldn't let him use the chair just in case he might scare the emerging butterfly.
Diana--Ohhhh, I have a post for that!
Ann--Me too. I need to join the pool again. But I have to get wet.....
Silverneurotic--I have some photos of the little ones I found last summer. Even they stare you down like they are gonna eat you!! EEEK!
Veronica Lee--I DID miss you! I hope your mom is doing better! Poor Mommeh! We will have to wait for spring for those babies.
Jennifer--Yep. I only know that because I have actually bought them from the garden center years ago. Now I'm "growing" my own! ;) I was pretty excited to have found these.
Catherine--Oh, the poop is CRAZY! It's like I have a dog or something--crap all over the yard!! Sheesh. The praying mantis eggs are a lot less messy--and stinky!
I'm betting you are way better than I am at IDing possum poopers!
yep, the miracles are there if we keep our eyes wide open and allow them to take place...love it Lin!
Sharkey--It took me the longest time to figure out why I had dog poop on the side of my house. Then when I looked closer--it had seeds, nuts, and berries in it--all things that dogs do not eat. And it didn't stink for some reason--not like dog poop. I know, it's weird to be analyzing poop in your yard, but I couldn't figure out who was making such a mess! Now I know. And I am a poop expert!
Tracy--And it doesn't take a lot of wide open space or a big world to find them. I find all sorts of miracles in my wee yard all the time. That's what makes me happy.
I wonder if all the plants rising in January is going to cause a problem. We have had such a warm winter that the plants are confused. I hope it doesn't hurt them.
Awh...you always make me pine and pine for a yard of my own! One day;)
