Taking Cover

Aw, man. NATO is in town this weekend and pretty much, all of Chicago is on lock down. Seriously.  Offices, museums, stores, and libraries in the city are all shut down starting on Friday.  There are cops everywhere. And we aren't just talking one or two cops every couple of corners--they are in groups of 4, 5 or 6 on nearly every corner. It's madness.

Joe's office is closed both Friday and Monday, just to keep the public transportation, streets, and buildings free of innocent people trying to live their lives without being caught in the possible anticipated chaos.

I'm not sure who is protesting or what they are protesting and I really don't care. They are just turning our city into a security nightmare. And while everyone is joking and being light-hearted about the restrictions and the accommodations for these knuckleheads, I don't like the level of fear being raised.  It's just crazy. I don't ever remember all of this fuss for anything in Chicago.

Move over Hobbes, I think we'll be joining ya under the hostas come Friday.

"Duck and cover" does seem to be the order of the day. Pity it has come to this.

Hang in there!

I'm ashamed to say I skipped that article in this morning's paper. Maybe I shall go back and read it.

Dear Lin,
Thank you for noticing my sticky post.
I do feel slightly better, but I am still half deaf on my left ear. But my mother, who is a veteran of many ear infections and temporary periods of deafness has assured me that my hearing will be restored.
(Called her last night on the phone.)
I have been away from the children for days, but now Elisabet has returned to me.

Hope you all are well.
Hugs,
Anna

Reckon is there room under the hostas with Hobbes? Might be a great a place to hang with your little pallie until the circus moves on. :)

Hobbes definitely has the right idea. I would plan to stay out of the busy area until it's all over.

Love the photo! I hadn't heard of what's going on there but I'd like getting the day off! :) How's Col's first week going?

As long as you are not in the 5% margin of error you will be fine. If you are, well, go away for the weekend. And take the cats.

I don't keep up with the news at all (I let Wade do that) so I have no clue what's going on there but it sounds like a good weekend to hang out in a lounge chair and relax

Vanilla--Oh, it's crazy. WHO are these people???!

Grace--I'm sure nobody is paying attention to it, but we are in Chicago. It's crazy how they are shutting down the city. Literally.

Catherine--NATO is having a summit and protesters are everywhere. Tens of thousands of protesters. It's surreal. Let the fun begin!

Anna--Oh, that sounds horrible! I hope you get better FAST, my friend.

Anna--Calle-Cat and Hobbes are soul brothers. :)

Chuck--Oh, man. It's a BIG circus, Chuck!

Diane--NATO is having a summit here this weekend. I think we just know about it because it is taking place here. It's crazy!

Beaded Tail--Joe isn't getting the days off, but has to work from home instead. It's a huge hassle for all of the people of Chicago. Needless to say, the protesters are NOT from here. It's very surreal. Colin's first week was great! We have lunch together. :)

Patty--Oh, we are staying FAR out of the city this week.

Nancy--Oh, it's gonna be interesting. Everyone is staying out of the city. I feel sorry for the people we know that live down there in the Loop. Ugh. You have to have i.d. just to get around.

Ann--NATO is in town for a 3-day summit. I'm sure you'll see and hear more on the news when it all begins. Right now, we are just getting ready and it's a mess. Ugh.

Glad I don't live there! That would make me crazy! Hobbes would be booting me out of the hostas, for sure. Hang in there - this, too, shall pass.
