Perspective

Joe and I sat on the lakefront a few weeks ago, watching the boats going by and talking about everything and nothing.  We sat there for the longest time, just having a nice chat--and then realized that we were probably being rude to the kids  and headed back to the picnic blanket.

"Gees, could you two not sit together?" was Em's comment and we approached them.

And I had no idea what she was talking about until she pointed out on the camera the distance between us as we sat.

Really?  Does 2 feet really make us "distant" in their minds?  And here we were, thinking how nice it was to sit together on the shoreline.

So I tried explaining that it was hot out there and I didn't want to stick to Dad and after 24 years of marriage, you don't always have to sit on each other's laps in order to show your love.  She didn't get it and I don't expect she will for a very long time.

Sometimes love is some air space on a hot day in the sun, you know?

Indeed - sometimes a little space is the most loving thing you can give...

Maybe objects in the camera view are closer than they appear. :) Sitting too close on a hot day in the sun would not have been as pleasant as the time you two were having. I'm sure it was a lovely moment with certainly a lovely view!

Love is expressed in many a way. A 24 year marriage says something right there. And she will figure it out, in time

Just the correct amount of space for a hot, sticky day!

Sign of aging #14. ;)

Air space, indeed. Seems to me more like a quarter-century together. ;-)

No, seriously. You are exactly right. Being comfortable with each other is much more important than the PDA the child seems to require.

i think you 2 look rather cute sitting there together....

and i think it's wonderful that you have "anything or nothing" to talk about after 24 years ;))

pretty blue water, it looks like a great spot!!

That is such a great picture and who cares how close you were sitting. Like someone said, 24 years of marriage is an excellent testament that you really do enjoy each other. Take care.

To me love is 2 separate super-single beds for a good night's sleep!

This is great! It reminds me of a feature in an old Mad Magazine. The cartoon was a couple all over each other in the car and the caption was something like "these people hardly know each other's names, and will never do anything together after tonight." The other picture was a man and woman each practically hugging their car doors. The caption was something like, "These people love each other very much. They have lived together for 25 years and finish each other's sentences."
