Another great aspect of being in HR (like there isn't enough. ugh.) is that you get to decorate the office....while everyone else stands around making smart-ass comments about you not having any "work" to do. Sigh.
We had a power outage the morning this all went up--and while everyone else was standing in the only light in the office and freaking out, my HR buddy and I lit up our cell phones and headed off to the storeroom to find the tree.
Guess who's idea it was for the fireplace?? Go ahead and guess. If you click on the photo, you may be able to see the napping kitty on the rug. We're all about ambiance at the workplace, people.
Now the problem isn't getting UP the decorations (okay, it is)....it's finding the time to take them DOWN. So, in between spreadsheets, conference calls, and three six-inch binders of 401(k) enrollments to process, I'm grabbing some garland here, taking down the stockings there, and hoping that somehow the tree just sort of disappears before I get there the next day.
Of course this is all to the tune of "When is somebody gonna take all of this Christmas stuff down?" Ugh.

Oh, yes, those decorations will take themselves down the same day the 401(k) apps process themselves.
Back when I used to work in an office we didn't have any decorations...I think it's nice to add some festive cheer to an otherwise sterile environment! The fake fireplace is too cute!!
Good luck with taking all the stuff down ;-)
I'll bet if you didn't put them up all you would hear is, "where are the decorations?"
Yes. It's the taking down that is a drag. I think that's the biggest reason I no longer put up a tree. I totally drag my feet for weeks and weeks before taking it down. It's just not fun.
Have a "take down the decorations" party?
That looks very nice! Isn't 'taking down decorations' in an intern's job description? If not, it should be!
Just one more reason I'm all for minimalism. Whatever that means.
I like Grace's idea, have a party to take down the decorations and a prize for who does it the fastest and the most. Or just leave them up until next year. LOL. Take care.
Cute fireplace. Don't you have an assistant/secretary you could delegate this chore to? Taking stuff down is never fun. That's why I put up very little this year--a nativity scene, a few paper snowflakes, stockings and a fake pointsetta the cats enjoyed knocking down the stairs.
Vanilla--And hell will promptly freeze over. :(
Duni--I try to amuse myself. I mean, if I have to do it, I might as well have some fun, right? (P.S. Nobody finds the fireplace as hilarious as I do, sadly.)
Patty--Amen, sister. Sounds like you know the people I work with.
Diane--Imagine putting up 2 trees at home and 1 at work. Yeah...fun times. Ugh.
Grace--Oh no. They would all eat the food and then hide at their desks. They have that mastered.
Beaded Tail--No interns to delegate to, sadly. But HR is next to interns on the respect scale, so I guess it's us. :(
Chuck--Can you write my boss a note? She is not about minimalism--mainly because it's not her who has to put up and take down all this stuff. I try to maintain a sense of humor through it all.
Marg--They would tear it all up. In fact, I took down a few delicate things the other day just in case somebody got the wise idea to start tearing stuff down. Once, this one dame took down the decorations and threw them all away!
Karen--Nope, nobody to delegate to, sadly. It's just a thankless job, like all the luncheons we host. Thank goodness I have a few good team members who help me.
I think your job sounds awful. Someone has to do it, right?
