With this year's wonky "winter" weather, I'm half expecting a frog or two to pop up today...it's gonna be in the 60's. In Chicago. In the middle of winter. Seriously, it's not good.
While some folks are happy about that, I am not--there are frogs who need to hibernate, people. Hibernation = longer life for frog friends. And while the air may be warm, the water is still cold which makes for slow-moving frogs--frogs that have no way to escape predators.
Sigh. Even in winter, I worry about the frog friends.
Dear Mother Nature, please send snow and ice....soon.

We are getting warmer weather too. The weather has definitely been very freaky this winter.
Seasons are all mixed up in the Heartland. Good luck to the frogs.
Tell me about it! Pricilla is shedding her underfur already and today it's snowing with a cold snap on the way. This weather must drive animals absolutely bonkers.
Wishing you and the froggies much snow in the days ahead. There is a reason for winter and the cold temperatures. Four seasons.. Gotta love it!
we have weather confusion here as well!! i hope your frogs are o.k.!!
As long as the winter weather stops at Chicago - I'll ask around for ya...
Hope the weather turns more hibernating type there soon! Now I'm going to worry about your frogs. :)
It's 58 F here on this secondary road. Warm again tomorrow and then back to cold. I'm watching a huge flock of Canada lift out of the neighbor's field. They love the stream that runs through there. They are forming up and heading . . . north? Can you believe that? I don't, and I'm seeing it.
It has been another strange winter. We are in the low-to-mid-40s today but will be up near 70 by Thursday. Poor plants and critters can't figure out what to do!
The temperature made it past 70 yesterday, and it is now in the middle 60s. The weather people swear that it won't make it out of the 30s tomorrow. Sigh.
the weather this year has been all over the place. Very crazy
Oh, I love the warmer temperatures giving us a break in the winter from the cold, ice and snow; but then, I don't have any frog friends to be concerned about.
Anne--I don't like it. We nearly burned up last summer. I don't want a repeat of that.
Vanilla--Good luck to us all. There's a drought in the midwest and I'm hoping it ends soon. I don't want another spring and summer like last year. It's just not right...or good for the earth.
Patty--I just think about my plants, yard, and animals--it's all wonky and things are suffering.
Diane--You are so right--there is a reason for the snow and cold. We are expecting both tomorrow--keep your fingers crossed.
Debbie--Me too. I didn't see anyone pop up today. But that makes me worry that they may be dead too. Ugh. I can't win.
Grace--Okay, I'll keep the snow and cold here, Grace. :) That's fair enough.
Beaded Tail--I always worry about the frogs. I can see the fish and know they are okay swimming around under the ice--but the frogs....we don't see them slumbering.
Chuck--It's gonna get cold here too. Folks are getting sick with all the temps varying---it's not good. I miss winter.
Candy--Yeah, I worry about the plants too. Last spring and summer was like this--too hot. My yard really suffered. I hope we don't have that again!
Jerry--We have the same here. I wish it would stay cold until March--we need the ground to freeze and the earth to rest.
Ann--Yeah, I don't like it.
Karen--We haven't had any snow, so I'm worried about that. It's raining though, so I guess that is good for the garden. No frogs came up today--I hope they are slumbering.
Seriously weird but I soaked it all in. I still have a window open now. My daughter dressed like it was summer and got some strange looks from teachers when I dropped her off. She was plenty warm all day!
I'm with you! I don't think we got warm enough for long enough that the frogs woke up, but it's pretty weird. All the rain finished off the snow, but now we are getting more again.
We have lots of frogs here in the spring. It's one of the things I love about this area. They call to each other all night long after the initial frenzy of spring subsides.
I love snow and wish we had it here more. Some years we get none and some we get a weeks' worth, or a few days, or a day. Or none.
