I forgot that I only posted the infamous "We're-all-wearing-matching-flannel-pajama-pants-this-Christmas-dammit" photo on Facebook. After hearing everyone comment on my snappy red flannel pants the other day, I figured I'd better milk this while I can.
Here it is....the happy family photo from this Christmas.
Colin and Hobbes were the rebellions...neither of which wanted to be caught dead in the 2012 family shot. Colin is more easily swayed/threatened. Hobbes....well....uh....he refused to smile and couldn't get away from us fast enough. Note that Grace is facing away from Hobbes so we don't have the fisticuffs like last year's photo.
I don't know why, but I got it in my craw that we were wearing matching flannels this year. Maybe it's just me being wacky or perhaps I'm thinking that these Christmas Eve's with my little family under the tree are numbered--either way, I guilted everyone into red plaid flannel.
Why do I think I'm the only one not fake-smiling?

Oh my COD, what a great picture ad all of you are so cute in your red flannel PJs. What a good family you have to do that, especially the cats. At least they didn't have to wear red flannel PJs. But it really is a great family picture.
Great picture!
Yes, send your 20 yr old over to play Legos. While he plays legos with my boys I could actually get some stuff done!
LOVE this and there is no way on this earth that Hubby would ever agree to doing this kind of photo. We didn't even do a Christmas photo or send our cards this year... first time in decades! How lam-o are we?
I think it's a sweet picture! Next year maybe you should rock a red flannel halter top. That till get people talking!
I'm sure the family enjoyed last year's photo more. But only because you didn't lose an eye.
That is a great photo and you know they love it as much as they complain about it.
ps: we had meatloaf for dinner last night
Oh I think families that dress a like are so cute...(ok maybe not or at least maybe not in plaid...My favorite story about plaid: I worked in a hat store and one winter we were featuring plaid flannel baseball caps - 2 girls, late teens, were trying them on and one said "Plaid is my favorite color!" Oh, yeah. )
Love the photo LinN...but last year's was the best...LOL
At least the kitties did not have to wear the pjs!
I think everyone secretly enjoyed it as much as you did! Well, except maybe Hobbes! :) I think it's a great photo!
Aww, that is so-- Christmasy! (What a photogenic group.)
Best idea ever. You rock!
I LOVE IT. Ya know, they may be grumbling about it now but in a few years they are going to be sitting around saying things like remember the year we did the matching flannel pants picture.
Marg--I am very lucky that they humor me like this. And just for the record, back in the day, I would have made the cats some pants. Now that I'm working, I don't have time. :( Bummer.
Lisa--Wish you were nearby. Really. I've got a college kid home and BORED. He would kill to hang with your boys for a day playing legos and...uh...basically making a mess. :)
Diane--Well, I'm not sure YOU are lame-o..... Hee! Hee! Yeah, the guys were hesitant, but then they liked the flannels because they weren't too warm. AND they came in long sizes! It was a win-win. You have next year. (Hint: I got the pants at Eddie Bauer)
Betty--Oh, there was enough talking with my white shirt! I had to wear a bra to keep it Rated G.
Chuck--They like it when I do wacky stuff that does not involve them. I'm not sure why--the cats enjoy it so each year.
Grace--I like that story. Hahaha! We did a family shot where we all wore a blue vest of some sort--but that was waaayyyyy back in the day. Haven't matched since. Well, until now. ;)
Mary Ann--Yeah, I nearly DIED in last year's photo!
Sparkle--sigh. If only I wasn't working, Sparkle. Back in the day, I would have sewn them little pants too. Darn work.
Beaded Tail--Hobbes and Colin do not think we are hilarious. :( We were lucky Colin smiled for the 3 seconds to get the photo.
Vanilla--I was so happy with how it turned out. I thought we'd all be grumpy and fighting!
Liz--Well, I thought it was a great idea---everyone else...well....I dunno about that. :)
Ann--That's what I was thinking!!! And when they need therapy, they will remember that moment as the cause of all their problems. :)
Wow, I love this family photo, Lin! Good for you for getting everyone and kitty to join in :) I could never hold my kitties the way you hold Grace. sigh.
Your daughter's really pretty with gorgeous hair :)
I hate blogger 'cause I left a comment here yesterday about how they would miss it if you didn't make them pose.
To submit this picture to awkward family portraits or not...just kidding. It's a great picture....wish my family had thought to do something fun like that for our annual family picture...though, I think it's just lucky we were able to pose together at all!
You guys look adorable! But nothing can ever top last year's photo. lol!!!
I'm glad they humored you... uh, I mean agreed to put on the flannels. It is a cute photo and, like you said, it may be one of the last PJ pictures. I don't think it'll be the last under the tree. Children, regardless of where they end up in the world and in life, will always eventually come home. And, when they do feel free to ask them to wear a certain color for the family photo... :-D
How funny: Grace sitting so regal like facing the other way... LOL @ Hobbes going for the quick escape.
Regardless of whether anyone is faking their smile (they look pretty natural!), you're all cute as pie.
Oh, btw, I was surprised to see you on FB the other day. I thought the world had come to an end. *snickering*
Awwww...ya'll look so CUTE all matchy and stuff but I'm really glad you kept those cats separated this year! ;)
Duni-Yeah, holding Grace like that is only good for about 5 seconds...just enough time to get the photo. I have pets that you cannot "pet" for some reason. Ugh.
Patty--I will have to check my spam folder...sometimes things end up there. Sorry. And yes, I think they expect me to do stuff like this and make them pose. :)
Silver--That's sorta where we are at--we are lucky to pose at all! It was fun and I'm glad I have it for posterity.
Rebecca--Oh, man! I nearly died in last year's photo!
Petula--I am on FB sometimes--I like to be a creeper on there..not too many posts. Feel free to message me if you see me on there...I'd love to chat with you!
Candy--Oh, gees, it gets UGLY when those two are within 10 feet of each other!
I just wanted to say I love your sense of humor, Lin, and that you force your family to do these things. The kids will thank you for it later. Or, they'll start blogs and their posts about these occasions will read a whole lot different than yours. Hee.
Love the photo, Lin! Everyone looks great, including the kitties!
I think you must have something good going on to get them to agree on the red plaid flannel. I don't know if I could have pulled that off even when the boys were small.
Kathy--I'm glad somebody thinks I'm funny, Kathy. Thank you. And yeah, the kids are gonna tell their stories later in life--but in therapy. :)
Veronica Lee--Hobbes was a pooper...can you believe it??! Sheesh.
Sharkey--I don't know why they humor me, but they do...thank goodness. I think it starts with Joe--he is a good sport and joins in. I think that gets the kids going too.
